Denmark Charges Two Individuals Under New Law Banning Quran Desecratio

Jarida Report

Denmark has charged two individuals under its recently enacted law prohibiting the desecration of the Quran. The charges stem from an incident during a festival in June, where the accused allegedly engaged in inappropriate treatment of a Quran. The event was publicly attended and broadcasted live on Facebook. This legislation, effective since December 7, 2023, makes it illegal to burn, tear, or defile holy texts in public or in videos intended for widespread dissemination. Violations can result in fines or imprisonment for up to two years. As of January 22, authorities are investigating eight potential violations of this law.
