Committee formed to cut textile cost

Jarida Report

On April 27, 2006, Pakistan’s Minister for Textile Industry, Mushtaq Ali Cheema, established a seven-member committee led by Zubair Motiwala to explore strategies for reducing production costs in the textile sector. The committee was tasked with delivering its recommendations by May 10, 2006, to potentially influence the forthcoming budget. During the 14th Federal Textile Board meeting, industry leaders highlighted challenges such as elevated taxes, and increased utility costs, which were diminishing competitiveness. The minister emphasized that the committee’s suggestions should avoid subsidies to prevent market distortions.
