A report that says United States President Donald Trump has authorized the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to conduct covert operations in Venezuela has been confirmed by Trump himself, much to the fury of Venezuelan leaders. American forces have conducted at least five strikes on suspected drug-carrying boats in the Caribbean in recent weeks, killing 27. Human rights experts appointed by the United Nations have described these raids as “extrajudicial executions.”
Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro, whose legitimacy is in question after last year’s elections were disputed, called for peace with the United States.
