Beijing Hits Back at Washington by Blacklisting U.S. Firms

Jarida Report

Thursday saw the Chinese Ministry of Commerce exacerbate trade tensions by adding to its list of approved American firms. Three organisations were included into the official list of export control and three others were labeled untrustworthy organisations which forbade their operations in China.

The decision is part of a reaction to the American action against sales of Chinese technology and serves as a sign that Beijing is preparing to take equivalent steps. Although the authorities did not identify the areas they wanted to influence, the move is interpreted by most people to be a wakeup call to Washington that it would not stifle it without retaliation. Analysts caution that the decision could further complicate business relationship of U.S and China since multinational corporations already reevaluate their supply chains in light of higher costs, security issues and alliances.
