Anxious Iranians Hope Nuclear Talks Will Ease Risk of US Attack

Jarida Report

Amid escalating tensions and economic hardship, many Iranians are cautiously hopeful that upcoming nuclear talks with the United States may alleviate the risk of military conflict and lead to sanctions relief. The negotiations, scheduled to take place in Oman, aim to address longstanding disputes over Iran’s nuclear program. U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated a willingness for direct negotiations, while Iran insists on indirect talks.

The announcement of these talks has already influenced Iran’s financial markets; the rial has strengthened slightly against the dollar, and the Tehran stock exchange experienced a notable uptick.

Despite these developments, skepticism remains among the Iranian populace due to past negotiation failures and the unpredictable nature of the discussions. Concerns are heightened by President Trump’s threats of renewed “maximum pressure” and potential military action if no agreement is reached.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reiterated that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons and has expressed openness to American investment should a deal be achieved. This stance marks a shift from previous positions and reflects the pressing need to address economic challenges exacerbated by sanctions.

The outcome of these negotiations holds significant implications for Iran’s future, as failure could lead to increased sanctions or military conflict, while success may pave the way for economic recovery and reduced regional tensions.
