Afghan Taliban Government Confirms Prisoner Swap with the US

Jarida Report

The Afghan Taliban announced a prisoner exchange with the United States, releasing two American citizens in return for Khan Mohammed, an Afghan fighter sentenced to life in California for drug trafficking and terrorism. Facilitated by Qatar, the swap was confirmed by Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. One of the released Americans, Ryan Corbett, detained by the Taliban in 2022, was welcomed back by his family with immense gratitude. The second American, identified as William McKenty, was also freed. This exchange is viewed as a potential step toward easing tensions between the Taliban-led Afghanistan and the US.
