Basel Adra’s Oscar Night Shoes A Symbol of Palestinian Heritage and Craftsmanship

Jarida Report

At the 96th Academy Awards, Palestinian filmmaker Basel Adra made a poignant statement by wearing white trainers adorned with traditional Palestinian tatreez embroidery. These shoes were crafted by Resolute RGL, a brand he co-founded, which collaborates with a women’s weaving cooperative in the South Hebron Hills, led by his mother, Kifah Adra. The trainers feature intricate hand-stitched designs in terracotta and sky blue, reflecting Palestinian craftsmanship and sustainability through the use of recycled materials. Adra’s choice of footwear not only showcased his cultural heritage but also highlighted the resilience and artistry of Palestinian women artisans.
