Lebanon’s Hezbollah is organizing a large-scale funeral for its late leader, Hassan Nasrallah, on Sunday at 1 pm at the Camille Chamoun Sports Stadium in Beirut. Nasrallah was killed nearly five months ago in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The event is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees, including senior Lebanese officials and high-level Iranian representatives. Current Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem will deliver a speech during the ceremony. Following the service, a procession will lead to Nasrallah’s burial site near the airport road, which is adorned with Hezbollah flags and images of fallen leaders. Due to the anticipated large turnout, Beirut’s airport will suspend flights from midday until 4 pm on Sunday. The funeral will also honor Hashem Safieddine, Nasrallah’s intended successor, who was killed in a subsequent Israeli strike; he will be buried on Monday in his hometown of Deir Qanun al-Nahr.
