On January 31, 2025, Kurram Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Saeed Manan Khan was injured in a firing incident in the Boshehra area of Upper Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was visiting the area to implement a ceasefire and was accompanied by police at the time. The assistant commissioner was shot in the stomach and was initially treated at the Parachinar District Headquarters Hospital before being airlifted to Peshawar for further medical care. Three other individuals were also injured in the incident.Â
This event follows a series of violent clashes in the Kurram district, stemming from longstanding land disputes. In November, an attack on a convoy in Lower Kurram’s Bagan area resulted in over 40 fatalities, leading to further conflicts that have claimed at least 130 more lives. A ceasefire deal was signed between warring tribes on January 1, but subsequent attacks on government and aid convoys have threatened the fragile peace. In response, authorities launched a limited counter-terrorism operation in Lower Kurram on January 19, which concluded after four days.Â
The situation in Kurram remains volatile, with ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
