Jarida Report

On January 30, 2025, health authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported the year’s second mpox case at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan International Airport. A five-month-old infant, who had recently arrived from Qatar with her parents, tested positive for the virus. Following the diagnosis, the health department initiated screening procedures for the infant’s parents and requested passenger details from airport authorities to conduct comprehensive surveillance. This case brings the province’s total to 11 since 2022. The first mpox case of 2025 was detected on January 25, involving a 35-year-old traveler from Dubai to Peshawar. Notably, all reported mpox cases in Pakistan thus far have been identified in passengers arriving from abroad, with no evidence of local transmission.
