Israeli Forces Kill 3 in South Lebanon as Residents Attempt to Return, Says Lebanese Ministry

On Sunday, January 26, 2025, Israeli forces fatally shot three individuals and injured 31 others in southern Lebanon as residents attempted to return to their homes. The incidents occurred in the villages of Houla, Aitaroun, and Blida. These events transpired after the expiration of a 60-day withdrawal deadline stipulated in a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah. Israel has extended its military presence in the area, citing Lebanon’s alleged failure to fully implement the agreement’s terms, including the disarmament of Hezbollah and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the south. In response, Hezbollah has urged the Lebanese state to ensure Israel’s compliance with the withdrawal terms. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called for restraint among southern residents and affirmed Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
