KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has awarded US First Lady Melania Trump the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, recognising her contribution to humanitarian support for Ukraine and efforts to help Ukrainian children.
A presidential decree published on Wednesday, dated November 2, cited her “significant personal contribution” to humanitarian assistance and her work supporting children, including those deported or forcibly transferred from Russian-occupied territories.
The award recognises women who have made exceptional contributions in fields including science, education, culture and charitable work.
Ukrainian officials said Melania Trump played a key role in arranging a six-day ceasefire to evacuate civilians from the Russian-occupied southern town of Oleshky. The evacuation pause ended on Sunday and was described as the longest local halt in fighting since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.
Melania Trump said nearly 800 people were evacuated during the operation.
