The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, has suffered a $6.3 billion (£4.7 billion) cyberattack, reportedly making it the biggest hack in history.
Binance said around half of the stolen assets had been frozen, while a significant portion remained in the hands of the hackers. The company later confirmed that it had begun recovering some of the funds.
Two cryptocurrency analytics firms have linked the attack to a North Korean hacking group, although no individual or organisation has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Binance has not directly addressed questions about the possible involvement of North Korea in the attack.
BBC cyber correspondent Joe Tidy has examined the details of the breach, its potential impact on affected users and the steps cryptocurrency holders can take if their assets have been compromised.
