Qatari Mediators Return to Tehran in Renewed Push to End US-Iran Conflict

Jarida Report

Qatari mediators returned to Tehran on Friday in a renewed diplomatic effort to negotiate an agreement ending the conflict between the United States and Iran, according to Al Jazeera.

The initiative is reportedly being coordinated with Washington and follows recent attempts to revive negotiations that stalled over disagreements concerning maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest diplomatic push comes after The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that US Vice President JD Vance had sent a letter to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei seeking to reopen negotiations.

A senior Iranian official told the semi-official Fars News Agency on Thursday that Tehran had received the message but had not yet responded.

The conflict began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with attacks targeting Israel and what it described as American military positions in several Arab countries.

Washington and Tehran signed a framework agreement in June and subsequently entered negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict.

However, the discussions later collapsed over disagreements regarding freedom of navigation and security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for international energy supplies and commercial shipping.

Qatar’s latest mediation effort represents another attempt to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table, although no new agreement or breakthrough has been announced.
