Hackers Steal $6.3 Billion From Binance in Alleged North Korean Cyberattack

Jarida Report

Hackers have reportedly stolen $6.3 billion from Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, in what blockchain analysts describe as the biggest cryptocurrency theft ever recorded.

US-based blockchain analysis firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed the attack to hackers linked to North Korea, citing similarities with previous cyberattacks associated with the country.

According to TRM Labs, the attackers targeted Binance wallets across 10 different blockchains and transferred most of the stolen funds within approximately 20 minutes.

Binance said it had worked with partners to freeze affected assets, with around $3 billion located so far. The status of the remaining $3.3 billion was not immediately disclosed.

Binance co-founder Yi He pledged that the exchange would cover “all hacking losses”, seeking to reassure customers following the breach.

The company said customer deposits remained unaffected and that it expected withdrawal services to resume within 48 hours.

TRM Labs said several characteristics of the attack resembled earlier cryptocurrency thefts attributed to North Korean hackers, including the $1.5 billion breach of cryptocurrency exchange Bybit in 2025, which the US Federal Bureau of Investigation linked to Pyongyang.

If confirmed, the reported $6.3 billion theft would surpass previous cryptocurrency hacking records and raise fresh concerns about the security of digital asset exchanges and the risks facing cryptocurrency investors.
