The Sindh cabinet on Tuesday decided to make public the judicial inquiry report into the death of 25-year-old entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali, directing the provincial Home Department to upload the document to its official website the same day and provide a copy to his family.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the CM House in Karachi.
Raza went missing from Karachi’s PECHS area on July 28. His body was discovered the following day in bushes near a wedding hall in Gulistan-e-Johar.
Police initially investigated the death as a suspected suicide. However, a second post-mortem examination, conducted after the body was exhumed, revealed a firearm entry wound, multiple injuries sustained before death and signs of internal bleeding.
The findings prompted investigators to treat the case as murder.
Following allegations of serious shortcomings in the initial police investigation, the Sindh government established a judicial commission to examine the circumstances surrounding Raza’s death.
The commission completed its hearings on October 8 and submitted its findings to the provincial government on October 16.
According to a government spokesperson, the inquiry report was presented to the cabinet in seven separate envelopes.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also formed a subcommittee to oversee the implementation of the commission’s recommendations.
The committee comprises Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani and the advocate general.
The cabinet’s decision will allow the public and the victim’s family to examine the commission’s findings once the report is published.
