OSLO: US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will participate in talks in Oslo on Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of Norway and Finland, the Norwegian government said.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said Ukraine had requested the participation of the two US envoys and welcomed their involvement in the meetings.
Witkoff will travel to Oslo to attend the talks in person, while Kushner will participate remotely, according to the Norwegian government.
Store and Finnish President Alexander Stubb will also join the discussions, which aim to advance diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
“Diplomatic efforts have previously taken place in several countries, and Norway and Finland are pleased to be able to continue this work. The aim is to put diplomatic efforts on a more constructive path,” Store said.
During his visit to Oslo, Zelensky is also scheduled to meet Norway’s king and visit the country’s parliament.
Meanwhile, Axios earlier reported, citing an unnamed US official, that Witkoff was expected to travel to Russia after the Oslo meetings, where he hoped to meet President Vladimir Putin and present proposals.
The White House had not immediately responded to an AFP request for confirmation of the reported visit to Russia.
