ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry tabled a motion in the National Assembly on Wednesday seeking parliamentary endorsement of the emergency proclamation and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The National Assembly resumed its session at Parliament House under Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Members approved a motion by majority vote to suspend Question Hour and take up the presidential proclamation issued on October 11, 2026.

Chaudhry presented the proclamation, issued under Article 232 of the Constitution, concerning the imposition of an emergency in KP. A motion seeking the House’s approval was subsequently tabled, and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar opened the debate.

Addressing the House, Tarar said parliamentary approval of the proclamation was a constitutional requirement. He said the emergency had been imposed in response to internal disturbances and what he described as the provincial government’s lack of seriousness in addressing terrorism.

The law minister stated that 3,787 terrorist incidents had been recorded in KP over the past year. He also criticised the provincial government for what he described as prioritising political activities over security challenges.

The motion will be considered by the National Assembly as part of the parliamentary process concerning the emergency proclamation.
