LAHORE: The Punjab Traffic Police has trained 34 women to drive rickshaws as part of an initiative aimed at expanding employment opportunities for women, ARY News reported.
The training programme, launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was conducted in collaboration with a private university at driving schools in Bahria Town and Manawan.
The initiative expands on earlier programmes that provided women with training to drive taxis and scooters.
City Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the programme was designed to help women access employment opportunities and earn independent livelihoods.
He said the initiative focused not only on driving skills but also on supporting women’s financial independence. Shirazi added that both men and women contributed to society’s development and that the Lahore Traffic Police would continue efforts to promote women’s employment and economic stability.
