The federal government on Wednesday announced another adjustment to fuel prices, raising petrol by Rs1.82 per litre while reducing high-speed diesel (HSD) by 91 paisas per litre for October 8.
According to a Petroleum Division notification, petrol will cost Rs396.65 per litre on Thursday, while the new HSD price has been set at Rs394.94 per litre.
The revision comes just a day after petrol was increased by Rs1.19 to Rs394.83 per litre, while HSD was reduced by Rs1.91 to Rs395.85 per litre for October 7.
Pakistan moved to a daily petroleum pricing mechanism in July, replacing the previous weekly system as volatility in international oil markets intensified amid the US-Iran conflict and concerns over global fuel supplies.
The government has also announced targeted assistance for some consumers facing higher fuel costs. Under a relief scheme unveiled by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in September, eligible motorcycle and three-wheeler users, as well as owners of cars with engines of up to 800cc, are to receive a Rs100-per-litre subsidy within specified monthly limits.
The proposed scheme is expected to cover approximately 11.8 million beneficiaries. Around 10 million motorcycle users and 800,000 three-wheeler users would qualify for relief on up to 20 litres each month, providing a maximum monthly benefit of Rs2,000.
Another one million owners of cars up to 800cc would be eligible for the subsidy on 30 litres per month, giving them a maximum benefit of Rs3,000.
