Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial has received strong early reviews following its world premiere at the New York Film Festival, with critics praising its portrayal of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the development of artificial intelligence.
Andrew Garfield stars as Altman, alongside Yuri Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, Mark Rylance as Geoffrey Hinton, Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk and Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati.
The film holds a 91% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with several reviewers praising its creative and provocative approach, while one critic gave it a negative rating.
Artificial was dropped by Amazon MGM Studios in June before Neon acquired worldwide distribution rights 11 days later. Directed by Guadagnino and written by Simon Rich, the film is scheduled to hit cinemas on December 25.
