Carpooling Made Mandatory For Lahore Schools Amid Smog

Jarida Report

LAHORE: Schools in Lahore have been directed to make carpooling among students, parents and staff mandatory as authorities step up measures to tackle worsening smog.

The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) instructed schools to facilitate shared transport for students, parents and staff travelling from the same areas or along similar routes.

Punjab Director General Environment Abdullah Niazi Sheikh said unnecessary and individual vehicle use was worsening Lahore’s air pollution, while reducing traffic around schools could help control emissions and smog.

The directive comes as Lahore faces dangerously high levels of air pollution, with heavy morning traffic around schools identified as a contributing factor.
