Pakistan’s security forces have killed eight militants during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to security sources cited by ARY News.
The operation was launched following intelligence reports about the presence of militants affiliated with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-linked group that Pakistani authorities refer to as Fitna al-Khawarij in the area.
Security sources said three key commanders were among the eight militants killed during the operation.
A large quantity of weapons and ammunition, along with foreign currency, was also recovered during the operation, according to the sources.
Security forces have continued counterterrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid heightened militant activity in the province.
On September 18, the military said 17 militants were killed in separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The operations followed an IED attack a day earlier in which six security personnel were killed.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 10 militants were killed in separate operations in North Waziristan and Hangu, with weapons and ammunition recovered from those targeted.
The military has said clearance operations are continuing in affected areas as part of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, its broader counterterrorism campaign.
