The federal government on Thursday announced another reduction in fuel prices, lowering petrol by 84 paisas per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.63 per litre for September 25.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the new price of petrol has been set at Rs389.28 per litre, while HSD will cost Rs412.12 per litre on Friday.
The latest adjustment marks the second consecutive daily reduction. For September 24, the government had cut petrol by Rs1.93 per litre and HSD by Rs4.21 per litre.
Pakistan moved to a daily fuel-pricing mechanism on July 17, replacing the previous weekly review system. The change was introduced amid heightened volatility in international oil markets and concerns over supplies linked to renewed tensions between the United States and Iran.
The government has also announced targeted assistance for lower-income fuel consumers. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a scheme providing a Rs100-per-litre discount on petrol for motorcycles, three-wheeler rickshaws and cars with engines of up to 800cc.
Under the proposed programme, around 11.8 million people are expected to qualify for assistance.
Approximately 10 million motorcycle users and 800,000 three-wheeler users would be eligible for subsidised fuel on up to 20 litres each month, providing a maximum monthly benefit of Rs2,000 per beneficiary.v
