Iran praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability on Monday as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni in Tehran for talks on bilateral cooperation and developments in the region.
Pakistan’s Interior Ministry said the two ministers reviewed progress in cooperation between their ministries across several areas and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.
According to the ministry, Momeni described Naqvi’s recent engagement with Iran as “very beneficial” and expressed appreciation for the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir towards regional peace and stability.
The Iranian minister also thanked Pakistan for its “continuous efforts” to establish peace in the region.
Naqvi, meanwhile, expressed confidence in the future of Pakistan-Iran relations, saying that “in the coming times, bilateral relations would become even stronger”.
Ahead of the visit, Pakistani government sources cited by Anadolu said discussions were expected to include the regional situation following attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group on Saudi oil and economic infrastructure, as well as efforts to revive stalled peace talks involving Iran and the United States.
Pakistan has previously warned that the latest escalation involving Yemen risks further complicating an already difficult regional security environment.
Monday’s trip marked Naqvi’s sixth visit to Tehran since the United States and Israel launched their war against Iran in February, according to the information provided.
