Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to expand the Prime Minister Fuel Relief Scheme to include motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws that are up to 20 years old, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said on Friday.
The PMO said Shehbaz issued “special directives” to broaden eligibility under the programme and provide additional relief to the public.
Under the revised criteria, all motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered after January 1, 2006, will be eligible for registration in the fuel relief scheme.
“Individuals operating 20-year-old motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi will also be able to benefit from the Prime Minister Fuel Relief Scheme,” the PMO said in a statement on X.
The decision expands the pool of vehicles eligible for the government’s targeted fuel subsidy, which was introduced to cushion smaller-vehicle users from the impact of sharply higher petrol prices.
