Pakistan Customs Enforcement officials have seized a large consignment of arms and ammunition, along with a vehicle, during an operation in Sidra Sharif.
According to officials, the seizure was carried out at JCP Yarik after authorities received credible information regarding the suspected transportation of illegal weapons.
Customs personnel intercepted the vehicle in Sidra Sharif, but the driver abandoned it and fled the scene.
The seized weapons included four US-made M4 (5.56mm) rifles, two G-III rifles with one magazine, 42 Maghull PMAG D-60 magazines, 20 empty M4 magazines and 40 empty AK-47 magazines. Officials also recovered 18 Turkish-made Tissa Zigana pistols, each with two magazines, along with 30 Beretta pistols, including 25 US-made and five Italian-made weapons. The consignment also contained two unmarked shot pistols and 120 Chinese-made 30-bore pistols.
The ammunition recovered included 900 AK-47 rounds marked 711/10, an additional 2,700 AK-47 rounds, 3,500 rounds of 30-bore pistol ammunition and 1,600 12-bore Pak Shaheen cartridges.
Customs officials said the seized arms, ammunition and vehicle have been taken into official custody. The total value of the confiscated items is estimated at Rs32 million.
Legal proceedings under the relevant law are under way, while authorities continue efforts to trace and arrest the driver who fled the scene.
