Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the government to place exports at the centre of Pakistan’s economic growth strategy, while expanding the range of industries competing in international markets.
Chairing a meeting on export promotion and economic growth, the prime minister stressed the importance of diversifying Pakistan’s export base by encouraging more sectors to sell their products abroad.
Shehbaz directed authorities to improve the quality of Pakistani goods to meet international standards, strengthen quality assurance mechanisms and ensure exporters comply with global regulatory requirements.
He also emphasised greater value addition to improve the competitiveness and market value of Pakistani products overseas.
The prime minister called for increased use of modern technology, research and innovation across export-oriented industries. He also directed officials to use digitalisation to modernise the economy and bring business practices in line with contemporary requirements.
Shehbaz instructed the government to remove administrative and commercial obstacles facing exporters and make export procedures simpler, faster and more transparent.
Officials briefed the meeting on progress in implementing the government’s previously approved strategic roadmap for export promotion.
Participants also considered proposals to enter new international markets, diversify the country’s export sectors, raise product standards and make it easier for businesses to engage in international trade.
Measures aimed at strengthening the global competitiveness of Pakistan’s export-oriented industries were also reviewed.
