Rickshaw Driver Accuses Manghopir Policeman of Assault, Firing After Roadside Argument

Jarida Report

Karachi: A rickshaw driver has accused a police officer of assaulting him and opening fire following a minor roadside argument in the Sultanabad area of Manghopir, ARY News reported.

Seeking action against the officer, the driver later reached an ongoing sit-in in Manghopir that had been organised to demand the arrest of robbers accused of shooting dead 15-year-old Rosham during a recent robbery.

Recounting the incident, the driver said he was transporting passengers towards Garam Chashma when his rickshaw stalled on the road.

According to the driver, a policeman travelling behind him repeatedly sounded his horn. The driver said he asked the officer to wait for a few minutes, explaining that mud on the road prevented him from immediately moving the vehicle.

He alleged that after he managed to move the rickshaw slightly forward, the policeman began verbally abusing him. When he asked the officer to stop using abusive language, the policeman allegedly smashed a window of the rickshaw and fired two shots at him while threatening to kill him.

The driver said he fled the scene and sought refuge at the nearby protest. He claimed that the officer involved lives in the area and is currently posted at Manghopir Police Station.

The driver further alleged that Manghopir police refused to register a First Information Report (FIR) or take action against the officer.

There was no immediate statement from police authorities responding to the allegations.
