Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intercepted and “destroyed” an advanced MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.
Citing an IRGC statement, the broadcaster said the drone was intercepted by a new advanced air defence system operated by the IRGC Aerospace Force.
“The operation was carried out under the control of Iran’s integrated air defense network,” the statement said.
Iranian authorities did not immediately identify who was operating the drone or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
There was also no immediate independent confirmation of the reported interception.
