Several electricity generators at hospitals across the Gaza Strip have stopped operating because of shortages of oil, fuel and spare parts, Gaza’s Health Ministry said on Sunday.
The ministry warned that shortages of generator oil were making it increasingly difficult for hospitals to maintain electricity supplies, with several generators ceasing operations in recent days.
According to the ministry, the limited quantities of oil recently allowed into Gaza by Israel were sufficient only to meet emergency requirements, while hospitals need around 2,500 litres each month.
“The remaining generators are operating around the clock under difficult technical and mechanical conditions and are unable to meet the electricity needs of all life-saving departments,” the ministry said.
It warned that additional generators could stop functioning unless urgent oil changes were carried out and called for the immediate entry of essential supplies needed to keep hospital power systems operational.
Generators have become the principal source of electricity for Gaza’s hospitals amid a prolonged power outage, while recurring shortages of fuel and spare parts have further disrupted their operations.
According to Gaza authorities, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured since the war began in October 2023, with widespread destruction reported across the enclave.
