A police inquiry committee has begun investigating the altercation involving women at an apartment building in DHA’s Khayaban-e-Bukhari, with both parties summoned to record their statements as authorities examine the role of police personnel seen at the scene.
The committee, working under the supervision of DIG South, has obtained CCTV footage from the affected family and sought additional videos and information relating to previous disputes between the parties.
Police officials said most of the officers visible in the footage appeared to be posted in Korangi district. They will be summoned for questioning once their identities have been formally established.
Both parties have been asked to appear before the committee on Monday. However, Advocate Sajjad Gul Khattari, representing the affected family, said his clients had not yet decided whether they would appear, adding that they remained frightened following the incident.
The investigation follows directives from Karachi Additional Inspector General Azad Khan, who ordered an impartial inquiry after footage of the confrontation at the residential building emerged.
Investigators have been specifically instructed to determine why police personnel were present at the scene and what role, if any, they played during the incident.
The committee will also review cases registered in connection with the dispute and has been directed to ensure that the allegations are investigated on merit.
Officials said the inquiry report would be finalised after statements from the parties and relevant police personnel had been recorded.
The Karachi police chief has given the committee three days to complete its investigation and submit its findings, directing that the inquiry remain transparent and impartial and establish responsibility for any wrongdoing.
