DIG South Asad Raza on Saturday ordered an inquiry into the registration of a police case following an altercation between two women at a residential building in Karachi’s Defence area, after CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media.
The inquiry will examine the circumstances that led to the case being registered and establish the facts surrounding the incident in Chhota Bukhari, Khayaban-e-Bukhari. SSP Investigation South has been assigned to conduct the probe.
Police said the challan in the case has not yet been submitted, while provisions relating to snatching and theft have been removed during the investigation.
The inquiry will also examine the involvement of police personnel seen in the footage. Investigators said a plain-clothed official captured on CCTV was allegedly associated with Korangi Police, and personnel appearing in the video would be questioned.
The incident reportedly occurred nine days ago following a dispute between two women at a flat in the area.
Footage subsequently shared on social media showed police personnel dragging a young man away from the scene. An official Vigo vehicle was also visible outside the building.
The video has raised questions over why police personnel from outside the area were allegedly present and about the circumstances in which an official vehicle was used.
Police said the inquiry would seek to establish the role of the personnel involved and determine whether proper procedures were followed in the registration and investigation of the case.
