Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Thursday rejected claims that Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir had visited Iran as an envoy of US President Donald Trump or Washington, saying the trip was part of Islamabad’s ongoing mediation efforts between the United States and Iran.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, speaking at his weekly briefing in Islamabad, described such reports as “misleading and factually incorrect”.
He said Munir’s visit was undertaken “purely in the context and backdrop of Pakistan’s ongoing role as a mediator” and added that the Iranian leadership had appreciated Islamabad’s efforts to promote de-escalation and a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Andrabi said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had also remained in contact with regional counterparts as part of Pakistan’s parallel diplomatic efforts.
The spokesperson also rejected recent claims by a former Indian chief of defence staff concerning Kirana Hills and India’s military objectives during the May 2025 conflict, describing them as contradictory and retrospective.
He said Pakistan’s layered air defence system had thwarted India’s military objectives during Marka-e-Haq, while Pakistan’s response under Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos demonstrated its ability to impose costs across the conflict spectrum.
“No strategic asset or sensitive infrastructure was compromised in Pakistan,” Andrabi said.
He argued that subsequent attempts to reinterpret the events through selective accounts could not change what he described as the verifiable operational record of the May 2025 conflict.
“History is established by facts and evidence, not by Bollywood-style retrospective claims,” the spokesperson said.
