US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that all mines in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz had been successfully removed or detonated, while warning Iran against placing new mines in the strategic shipping route.
“Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The US president declared a “zero tolerance policy” towards any further deployment of mines in the strait, one of the world’s most important routes for international energy shipments.
Trump also claimed that the United States was using Space Force technology to maintain extensive surveillance of the waterway, saying Washington could monitor “every square inch” of the area.
He added that US surveillance was also covering Pickaxe Mountain and three Iranian nuclear sites that he described as already destroyed.
Trump’s comments come amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran and efforts to restore secure maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
