Norris Wins Dutch Grand Prix as Verstappen Crashes Out at Zandvoort

Jarida Report

Reigning Formula 1 champion Lando Norris claimed his second consecutive victory by winning the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing ahead of championship leader Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.

The McLaren driver followed his triumph in Hungary with victory in the 12th round of the 2026 season, crossing the line 11.536 seconds ahead of Antonelli.

Home favourite Max Verstappen’s race ended dramatically on the opening lap when he lost control of his Red Bull in damp conditions at the banked final corner and crashed heavily into the barriers. The accident brought out a red flag, although Verstappen escaped unhurt.

Norris had led from pole at the original start, while Antonelli moved past Mercedes teammate Russell into second. After racing resumed on Lap 5, Antonelli seized the lead following a battle with Norris at the opening corner.

The two remained closely matched at the front as changing conditions and pit-stop strategies played an important role in the race.

Norris made his final stop for hard tyres on Lap 48 and returned to the track in third behind Lewis Hamilton and Antonelli. He then produced a decisive move around the outside of Antonelli at Tarzan corner on Lap 54.

A virtual safety car followed after Esteban Ocon stopped on track, while Hamilton’s subsequent pit stop allowed Norris to regain the lead. Antonelli made another stop before recovering to second place.

Norris controlled the closing laps to secure back-to-back Grand Prix victories, while Russell completed the podium after holding off late challenges from Ferrari drivers Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Antonelli’s second-place finish increased his championship tally to 242 points, extending his lead to 59 points over Hamilton and Russell, who are tied on 183.
