Heavy Rain Floods Several Rawalpindi Areas, WASA on High Alert

Jarida Report

Heavy rainfall lashed Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Wednesday morning, causing waterlogging and flooding in several parts of Rawalpindi as drains overflowed and the water level in Nullah Lai began to rise.

Rainwater drains overflowed in Jan Colony, Shalay Valley, People’s Colony and Raja Ikram Colony, while significant water accumulation was reported on roads in Sadiqabad and Muslim Town.

Several other localities, including Fauji Colony and Pir Wadhaye, were also inundated following the intense downpour.

After the rainfall eased, authorities reported a rise in the water level of Nullah Lai, prompting continued monitoring of the major stormwater channel.

The managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) said more than 100 millimetres of rainfall had been recorded across the twin cities, warning that the intensity of the prevailing weather system could lead to urban flooding.

WASA has been placed on high alert, with drainage operations continuing under a rain emergency. Teams are monitoring water levels around the clock, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

According to a WASA spokesperson, the agency’s managing director was personally overseeing operations in the field, while workers and heavy machinery remained ready for emergency deployment.

Authorities are continuing drainage efforts as they monitor the impact of the ongoing spell of rain across Rawalpindi.
