Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned a Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea that killed three Pakistani nationals and injured another.
The attack targeted the Tanzania-flagged commercial vessel Tihamah, resulting in multiple casualties among its crew. An Indonesian national was also reported killed.
In a statement on X, Dar confirmed that three Pakistanis had lost their lives and one had been injured, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims.
The foreign minister said Pakistan strongly condemned attacks on non-combatant commercial vessels, warning that such incidents endangered innocent lives and violated international law.
He said attacks on merchant shipping also posed a serious threat to freedom of navigation, maritime security and the safety of commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea.
Dar said Pakistani authorities were in contact with Saudi officials and Yemen’s internationally recognised government to obtain further information about the attack and establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the Pakistani crew members.
The government is awaiting additional details as authorities work to determine the full extent of the casualties and circumstances of the attack.
