Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate telephone conversations with his Saudi and Omani counterparts on Monday to discuss regional developments and the security of the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement published on his Telegram channel.
The statement said the ministers reviewed the latest bilateral and regional developments and stressed the need to strengthen cooperation and advance joint diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting regional stability.
Araghchi’s call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan came after Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted drones launched toward the kingdom by Iran-affiliated groups operating in Iraq.
Separately, a Gulf source told Reuters that Oman has presented Iran with a proposal for a joint regional mechanism to manage navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, funded through voluntary fees. The source said the proposal has the backing of other countries in the region.
Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Amman to discuss the latest regional escalation and efforts to restore calm.
According to a Jordanian government statement, the two officials reviewed the repercussions of the recent tensions and emphasised the importance of achieving lasting regional security, as efforts continue to preserve the ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
