Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z) chief and Member of the National Assembly Muhammad Ijazul Haq on Monday said the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan would ultimately require a political settlement rather than force.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ARY News, Ijazul Haq said some national issues cannot be resolved through coercive measures alone and instead require political dialogue.
“The security forces are performing their duties to maintain law and order in the country, but certain matters have to be resolved politically,” he said.
Commenting on the performance of the ruling coalition, Ijazul Haq said it was under considerable pressure despite its efforts to address the country’s challenges.
“There is no doubt the government is facing difficulties and is making strenuous efforts, but foreign visits have brought no tangible benefit to the country,” he said.
The PML-Z chief also called for political restraint, saying all stakeholders should recognise that there are limits that should not be crossed.
“In Pakistan, political circumstances can change rapidly. Today, someone may be in power, but tomorrow the situation could be entirely different,” he said, adding that no political party should assume its opponents will never return to power.
