EU’s Top Court Upholds €4.1bn Antitrust Fine Against Google

Jarida Report

Google has lost its long-running legal challenge against a European Union antitrust fine of around €4.1 billion ($4.7 billion) after the bloc’s highest court dismissed an appeal by the US technology giant and its parent company, Alphabet.

In a ruling on Thursday, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) upheld a lower court’s decision, confirming the penalty imposed over Google’s abuse of its dominant market position through the Android operating system.

The case stems from a 2018 European Commission investigation, which found that Google used pre-installation agreements and licensing restrictions to promote Google Search and the Chrome browser on Android-powered mobile devices.
