JD Vance Cancels Switzerland Trip as US-Iran Follow-Up Talks Delayed

Jarida Report

US Vice President JD Vance has cancelled a planned trip to Switzerland, where he was due to meet Iranian negotiators on Friday to begin technical talks on implementing the 14-point agreement between the United States and Iran, a White House spokesperson said.

While US officials had earlier said a formal signing ceremony would take place in Geneva, Iran’s foreign ministry questioned the need for such an event after both countries’ presidents signed the agreement electronically on Wednesday.

Although Iran had indicated it was prepared to begin technical negotiations following the extension of the ceasefire, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran wanted to see evidence of US implementation of the interim agreement before proceeding. It also said there was no confirmation that the Iranian delegation would travel to Geneva.

According to the White House, Vance and the US delegation were prepared to depart once arrangements for the talks had been finalised.

“But the logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable,” the spokesperson said.

There was no immediate response from the Iranian government.
