Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari held a meeting on Monday to discuss a range of national issues, including the recent elections in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and the prevailing law and order situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to a statement issued by the President’s House, the leaders also reviewed matters related to national security, economic conditions, the upcoming federal budget and the broader regional landscape.
“The discussions also covered the recent G-B elections, the law and order situation in AJK, and other matters of national importance,” the statement said.
The two leaders also exchanged views on budget proposals and measures aimed at providing relief to the public. During the discussion, President Zardari emphasised the importance of focusing on public welfare, safeguarding provincial rights and ensuring economic stability in the next federal budget.
“The president directed that full efforts be made to align the growth rate and public welfare schemes in the upcoming budget,” the statement added.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also attended the meeting and briefed the president on his recent visit to Iran, as well as the latest diplomatic developments and regional engagements.
