Donald Trump and Qatari Prime Minister meet in New York

Jarida Report

US President Donald Trump hosted dinner, inviting the Qatari prime minister in New York on Friday, days after US ally Israel launched an airstrike in Doha.

When Israel struck the uninvolved Qatar on Tuesday, the strike risked derailing US-backed efforts to broker a truce in Gaza and end the nearly two-year-old conflict.

This attack was increasingly condemned in the Middle East and beyond as an act that could escalate tensions in a region already on edge.

Trump has mentioned his annoyance towards this act—as expressed in a call with the Israeli prime minister, in order to ensure continued solidarity with Qatar.
