On May 30, 2025, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet approved the Climate Action Board (CAB) Bill, 2025, aiming to establish a financially and administratively independent body to coordinate and oversee climate strategies across government departments. The CAB will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and implementing climate policies and action plans for the province.
Key functions of the CAB include maintaining greenhouse gas inventories, establishing emission baselines, conducting research on mitigation and adaptation, mobilizing financial resources for climate action, and managing a dedicated climate action fund. The board will also have the authority to appoint necessary personnel and consultants to assist in its operations.
Additionally, the cabinet approved forwarding a provincial assembly resolution to the federal government, expressing concern over the repeated arrests and alleged political victimization of former MNA Ali Wazir, and calling for his immediate release and access to medical treatment.
