On May 27, 2025, differing perspectives emerged within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding the potential release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan before Eidul Azha.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s Optimism:
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed hope that Imran Khan would be released before Eidul Azha. He conveyed confidence in the legal team’s efforts and urged party workers to remain calm, assuring them that all possible measures were being taken to secure Khan’s freedom.
Aleema Khan’s Skepticism:
Contrarily, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, dismissed such optimism as unfounded rumors intended to pacify PTI supporters and deter them from protesting. Speaking outside Adiala Jail, she highlighted the harsh conditions of Khan’s imprisonment, including limited communication with his children, denial of medical check-ups, and restrictions on reading materials.
Aleema relayed a message from her brother, urging PTI leaders to cease “playing from both sides” and to prepare for a nationwide movement. She emphasized that Khan remains steadfast in his principles and is closely monitoring the actions of party members.
Legal Proceedings:
Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency’s Special Court continued proceedings related to the Toshakhana Bvlgari jewellery case. The sixth prosecution witness was cross-examined, with further witness statements scheduled for May 31.
