74 Killed in Deadliest U.S. Airstrike on Yemen, Say Houthis

Jarida Report

On April 18, 2025, U.S. airstrikes on Yemen’s Ras Isa fuel port resulted in at least 74 deaths and 171 injuries, marking the deadliest attack in Washington’s 15-month campaign against the Houthi rebels. The U.S. military stated that the strikes aimed to disrupt fuel supplies and funding for the Iran-backed Houthis, who control significant portions of Yemen.

The Houthis condemned the attack as an assault on civilian infrastructure and vowed retaliation, including missile launches at Israel and U.S. aircraft carriers. Protests erupted in Yemeni cities, with demonstrators chanting anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans.

This escalation occurs amid renewed U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, with analysts suggesting the strikes serve as a signal to Tehran. The U.S. has intensified airstrikes since President Trump’s administration resumed operations in March, following a brief ceasefire.

The Ras Isa port is a critical economic hub for Houthi-controlled regions, and its targeting raises concerns about the impact on Yemen’s humanitarian situation.
