2 dead, 16 injured as Rawalpindi-bound bus veers off road into drain

Jarida Report

A tragic accident occurred on April 15, 2025, when a Rawalpindi-bound passenger bus veered off the Hazara Motorway near Shah Maqsood interchange in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and fell into a roadside drain. Two passengers lost their lives, and 16 others, including a teenage girl and three foreign nationals—John from the Czech Republic, Zu Chongzhi, and Lyu Li Dong from China—were injured. The bus had departed from Gilgit earlier that morning. While police attributed the crash to reckless driving, passengers claimed the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The injured were transported to Haripur Trauma Centre, with five serious cases referred to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. The deceased have been identified as Masroor, 55, from Yaseen, Gilgit, and Zameer Abbas, 42, from Astore.
